ENTREPRENEURSHIP

In a world of constant social change and Jewish communal transformation, Rabbi Bassin has been at the forefront of pushing boundaries and fostering innovation to meet the moment. As a fellow of the Joshua Venture Group at the beginning of her rabbinate, Rabbi Bassin was awarded more than $100,000 in grants and training that rooted her approach to organizational leadership in human-centered design.  She has continued building her skill set in innovation through the Schusterman ROI Community, the Clergy Leadership Incubator, and Stanford University’s D School Design Thinking Bootcamp.

Rabbi Sarah Bassin wins the 2013 Governor's Volunteering Service Award in California

As the inaugural executive director of NewGround, Rabbi Bassin helped transform the field of Muslim-Jewish relations when it was still deeply controversial and largely avoided by mainstream Jewish organizations. When she transitioned to congregational work, Rabbi Bassin helped build a synagogue culture willing to question and uproot the status quo.  By applying the principles of human-centered design, Rabbi Bassin worked with her community to help Temple Emanuel become a model congregation in social justice, young professional engagement, and teen education.
